Queen Elizabeth receives her own Barbie doll for the platinum anniversary

LONDON – Queen Elizabeth is honored with a Barbie doll in her likeness to celebrate her platinum anniversary this year.

Toy maker Mattel said on Thursday it was celebrating the 1970s on the monarch’s throne with a Barbie doll from the Tribute Collection.

Dressed in an ivory dress with a blue belt adorned with miniature medallions and ribbons, the figure also has a tiara based on the one Elizabeth wore on her wedding day.

Elizabeth, who turns 96 on Thursday, ascended the throne after the death of her father, King George VI, on February 6, 1952. She is the longest reigning monarch in British history.

The doll will be on sale in London’s Harrods, Selfridges and Hamleys stores before the official platinum anniversary celebrations in early June.
