The Queen will not attend Friday’s platinum anniversary service on Thanksgiving after retiring for mobility reasons.
Her Majesty had high hopes for the service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Friday morning, but felt “uncomfortable” during Thursday’s festivities.
The decision was made with “great reluctance” after considering “the necessary travel and activity”, Buckingham Palace said.
The St. Paul’s Office in central London will thank the Queen for her seven decades as monarch.
Senior royalty will be present, including the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, with Prince Charles officially representing the Queen.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have flown in from California, are also expected to join. This will be Prince Harry and Megan’s first royal event together since they left the UK two years ago. However, Prince Andrew, who had to attend, will not do so after giving a positive test for Covid.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex “want to be as low as possible”
A royal commentator said Megan and Harry hope to be as non-professional as possible during their trip to the UK for The Platinum Jubilee.
Omid Scoby, author of Finding Freedom, told BBC Breakfast: “I spoke to people close to the couple … who said they wanted to be as low as possible during this trip.
“It’s almost hard to believe, but I think Trooping the Color was a great example yesterday. In fact, we didn’t see them on TV. “
He added that the couple has a “warm and close” relationship with the queen.
He also spoke about Lilibet’s upcoming first birthday on Saturday.
He said, “These moments with Lillibet are very personal between them and the Queen,” and this one last night in Windsor would be the first time Her Majesty would meet in person with her namesake.
The Duke and Duchess were spotted watching the Trooping of the Color on Thursday.

Who will attend the Queen’s Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral?
Many of the most famous royalty will attend the service, including Prince Charles, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge.
It is also believed that Prince Harry and Megan, the Duchess of Sussex, will attend their first royal event together after leaving the United Kingdom.
However, the Queen herself will not attend the Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Friday morning, Buckingham Palace said.
The palace said the decision was made after Her Majesty felt some discomfort after a parade marking the start of her platinum anniversary celebrations on Thursday.
“Platinum Anniversary: Thanksgiving Service” will air today at 9.15 am on BBC One. The royal family is expected to arrive around 11 am.
Prince Andrew will miss the Jubilee Thanksgiving service after giving a positive test for Covid.

The bishop was “excited” before the thanksgiving service
The bishop of London said she was “excited” ahead of the Queen’s platinum anniversary service at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
The Honorable Lady Sarah Mulally, who will lead the blessing in St. Paul, told BBC Breakfast: “I think I’m excited.
She added that she was worried about the ceremonial regalia she had to wear.
“It’s a coat called the George V coat. It’s a pretty old coat that’s a cape on me, but of course it’s for men because I’m the first woman to happen to be the bishop of London,” she said.
“So it doesn’t look so good on me, so I’m a little nervous.”
She said Her Majesty’s Christian faith “has always shaped her” and she feels privileged to play a role in the ministry and “thank” the queen for her service to the country.
The service of thanksgiving for the reign of the Queen will be held today in St. Paul’s Cathedral.
The Great Paul, the largest church bell in the country, will be beaten before the service and a new anthem will be unveiled by Judith Weir, the Queen’s master of music.
