Burnaby police are investigating a clash near the city limits with New Westminster, in which he killed a 14-year-old girl on Thursday afternoon.

Photos from the scene show a yellow tarpaulin covering what looks like the body of the road in block 7100 on 11th Avenue. A large dump truck is parked in the middle of the road, surrounded by a warning strip.

The Burnaby RCMP said in a press release that the crash happened around 3:20 p.m. and involved a pedestrian and a commercial vehicle.

“The driver of the commercial vehicle, a dump truck towing a dump trailer, remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” the police said in a statement.

A witness told CTV News that her children heard an ambulance and numerous police cars approaching around 4 p.m. When they looked outside, they saw a small figure under a tarpaulin on 11th Avenue and a woman lying on the road, crying.

“We understand that a tragic incident like this will be widely felt in the community,” Corporal Brett Cunningham said in a statement.

“The Burnaby RCMP is looking for ways to support those affected by this tragic death. Our Victim Services Unit is also involved and offering support to those affected. “

The team’s criminal clashes investigation team is working to establish the circumstances that led the truck to hit the girl, police said, adding that they did not believe the driver was injured.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has a video of 11th Avenue between 15th and 18th Streets to call the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
