The RCMP in West Kelowna says it is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of what turned out to be an explosive device on Bartley Road on Thursday morning.
In a press release, the RCMP’s Explosives Disposal Unit, activated from the lower continent, found that the suspect was indeed an explosive device.
It was destroyed locally.
The RCMP did not specify whether the site was indeed an artificial bomb, saying “in order to protect the integrity of the investigation, no further details about the device will be released at this time.”
A resident of the area told Castanet News that she was told that the device was a tube bomb.
The police, out of great caution, guarded the scene until the arrival of the EDU. Residents have not been evacuated, but traffic through the area is restricted.
The RCMP in West Kelowna, EDU and the forensic team continue to investigate.
