Red Earth Cree Nation launches search for missing 5-year-old boy for outside volunteers

The first nation in northeastern Saskatchewan says it is not giving up on looking for five-year-old Frank Young.

Young disappeared from his home in Red Earth Cree Nation, about 300 km northeast of Saskatoon, shortly after noon CST on Tuesday.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, the community said it now allows volunteers to join search groups.

He also accepted electronic money transfers to help with the search.

“We thank all the volunteers, the surrounding communities and the media for your concern for our community and for little Frank,” the publication said.

The RCMP, local search teams, other first nations and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Search and Rescue Association (SARSAV) scoured the area for any evidence of Yang’s whereabouts.

The crews searched the local Morkov River with the help of boats. The RCMP also used an infrared search aircraft to search for the boy.

Police do not believe Young was abducted.

At a news conference last week, Chief Marcel, head of the nearby Shoal Lake First Nation, said Young’s parents were “completely devastated” but were grateful for the public’s support. Both parents are members of the First Nation of Shoal Lake.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the RCMP Carrot River Squad.
