Nikkei Asia announced this week that Apple and its suppliers are struggling to produce the iPhone 14 over the blocking of COVID-19 in China. Now analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities has provided more details in this story, saying that production of the iPhone 14 Max has been delayed by three weeks.
According to Nikkei Asia, Apple has asked suppliers to speed up production of new iPhone models, which are expected to be released later this year. This is because many Apple vendors have stopped operating in China as a result of the blocking of COVID-19.
Yesterday’s report revealed that a particular iPhone 14 model was affected by delays in the EVT test, when vendors finalized all parts and processes before mass production began. Analyst Jeff Pooh believes that the affected model is the long-standing rumored iPhone 14 Max (not Pro Max).
To mitigate the impact of the delays, Apple plans to start mass production of the new iPhone earlier than expected. However, production of the iPhone 14 Max, which will be mainly assembled by Pegatron, is expected to begin in late August – just weeks before the announcement of the new models.
Jeff Pooh predicts that Apple will produce 91 million iPhones 14 by the end of the year despite production delays for the 14 Max, more than the 84 million iPhones 13 Apple shipped in 2021. However, it is unclear whether the delay in production will be prompted by Apple to postpone the official announcement of the iPhone 14.
Rumors for iPhone 14
The iPhone 14 is expected to be available in four different models. 6.1-inch iPhone 14, brand new 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. As you can see, there will be no new “mini” model in the iPhone 14 range.
Other rumors include a refreshed design for the 14 Pro models with a new pill-shaped slot, thinner bezels and larger camera sensors with a 48-megapixel wide lens. Unfortunately, ordinary iPhone 14 models are not expected to have significant changes in design and hardware.
Independent sources from 9to5Mac and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo say that Apple may break the tradition this year by releasing some iPhone 14 models with the same A15 chip as the iPhone 13.
