Former State Representative Russell Fry is believed to have defeated MP Tom Rice (RS.C.) in the Republican primary in the 7th district of South Carolina on Tuesday in a campaign aimed at the incumbent’s vote of five last year’s mandate to impeach former President Donald Trump.
The Associated Press announced the race at 11:01 p.m. ET.
Rice was one of 10 Republicans in the House of Representatives who voted to impeach Trump for his role in the January 6, 2021 uprising in the US Capitol.

This vote won him a place in the list of enemies of the former president, as well as the field of the main contenders. Trump backed Fry in the February race.
However, Rice never backed down from his previous criticism of Trump and defended his impeachment vote. Fry, meanwhile, attacked Rice for the impeachment vote and his stay in the House of Representatives, arguing that the five-term congressman had lost the trust of voters in the 7th district of South Carolina.
The Republican Party’s primary election in South Carolina’s 7th district was one of two in the state that served as a test of Trump’s influence on Republican voters. In the 1st district of the state, Trump tried to overthrow the Republic of Nancy Mace (RS.C.), which criticized him last year for his role in the January 6 attack.
