result and latest updates of fourth day of fifth test

Good morning and welcome to day four of our fifth test match live blog. India resume at 125/3 and with the mighty Cheteshwar Pujara unbeaten on 50*, they will be confident of amassing a formidable and from their perspective, hopefully, an insurmountable score. With six sessions to go and their lead already at 257, they have plenty of time to do so. If they want to go the other way, then the dangerous Rishabh Pant, on 30* overnight, is the man to score quickly enough to put India out of sight for an hour and a half. So there are many potential paths to victory for the tourists.

As for England, they will obviously be confident of chasing anything given their brilliant recent form in the chase, but this could be a different proposition. Ravi Jadeja’s spin will come into play and the teams led by captain Jasprit Bumrah will have noted with approval some uneven bounces on day three.

Here’s Jonny Bairstow.

“What they order, they order, and we will continue in the same way. Why not?”

“There is no point in looking at numbers and everything like that. We know we’re going to play pitches from day four, day five, but that’s good. It’s been a lot of fun lately.

“It’s fantastic to play in front of these packed houses, play for the fans and inspire the next gen

Mohammed Siraj, meanwhile, praised Pujara for his efforts in the evening session, with the stalwart building his side’s position with admirable restraint.

“He is a warrior. When the team needs it, he just has that attitude,” Siraj said.

“When the going gets tough, he wants to stand up and do it.”
