Results of the runoff in Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Texas and the special primary in Minnesota

Georgia’s incumbent Republican Gov. Brian Kemp is expected to survive the main challenge from former Sen. David Purdue, who received the most approval from former President Donald Trump and the biggest financial aid he has given to any candidate so far.

Trump-backed candidates appear to have resigned in Georgia on Tuesday night, although his favorite Senate candidate, Herschel Walker, is expected to win the Republican nomination. But CBS News predicts that Attorney General Chris Carr has survived the challenge of Trump-backed John Gordon.

And CBS News predicts that Secretary of State Brad Rafensperger, whom Trump asked in January 2021 to “find” enough votes to overturn the results, will win the Republican nomination over his candidate, Trump-backed U.S. envoy Jody Hayes. He was one of the Republicans in the House of Representatives who challenged the election results in Pennsylvania and Arizona on January 6, 2021.

“I thought the vast majority of Georgians were looking for honest people for office. “Someone to do their job, to obey the law, to take care of them – regardless of the personal cost,” Rafensperger said. “To stand up for you, to stand up for the rule of law and the integrity of elections, and to stand up for the truth – and not to be distorted under pressure – is what people want. I was chosen to serve the people and I will do so. I did. “

Trump has targeted Republicans in Georgia for failing to overturn the 2020 election results.

Meanwhile, Kemp will face Democrat Stacey Abrams, who won in 2018.

“I fully support Brian Kemp in his quest to defeat Stacey Abrams,” Purdue told supporters in his rebuttal speech. “We will do everything we can to make sure that Stacey Abrams does not take over this country.

Without mentioning Kemp’s victory, Trump called Walker’s victory party, highlighting his “great numbers.” Walker noted that “the big game is in November” when he faces incumbent Senator Rafael Warnock.

In one closely watched primary election in the House, CBS News predicted that Republican Marjorie Taylor Green would win the Republican nomination in Georgia’s 14th Conservative County, easily defeating a number of contenders.

In his speech for victory, Green issued a stern warning to Republicans and “globalist elites.” “Sending me back to Washington will send a message to the blood-sucking establishment. We are the ones who will set the political agenda for the next decade, not you,” she said.

In the main primary elections of the Democratic Democratic Party in Georgia, two incumbent presidents faced the new 7th district. CBS News predicts that Lucy McBate, who has been relocated from Georgia’s 6th arrondissement, will defeat Carolyn Bourdais, Georgia’s 7th arrondissement.

Alabama and Arkansas are also holding primary elections on Tuesday. Trump has announced his preferences in the Senate race for the Alabama Open. He initially backed longtime loyalist Mo Brooks, but later changed his mind and gave up his support in March, when Brooks had difficulty polling. After Trump withdrew his approval, Brooks, who was one of members of Congress who objected to the election results, said the former president “asked to cancel the 2020 election.”

But despite the loss of Trump’s approval, CBS News predicts that Brooks and Katie Britt, former Senator Richard Shelby’s former chief of staff, will go to the runoff.

Arkansas CBS News predicts that former Trump White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders has won the gubernatorial election after leading the group in fundraising and polls. Her father, Mike Huckabee, was governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007.

Several important run-offs are taking place in Texas, which are engaged in Tuesday’s shooting near San Antonio. In the 28th district of Texas, incumbent Henry Cuelar is facing Jessica Cisneros after Cuelar failed to garner 50 percent of the vote in the March 1 primary. As of late Tuesday, less than 200 votes had split the two.

CBS News predicts that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will win the Republican nomination, easily defeating Land Commissioner George P. Bush. While Paxton is embroiled in many scandals, Bush – the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, nephew of former President George W. Bush and grandson of former President George W. Bush – could not overcome his last name.

According to an April poll by the Texas Foundation for Spanish Politics, 40 percent of Republican primary voters said they would never vote for Bush. Two-thirds of those voters said it was because he was a member of the Bush family. Forty-one percent said they would not vote for Bush because he was not conservative enough.

Bush tweeted a discount and drew attention to Tuesday’s shooting in Uwalde, Texas, which killed at least 19 children and two adults.

“But after the tragic events of today, it’s important to look at temporary disappointments in life,” Bush said. “There are grieving parents in South Texas today. My family and I grieve with them.”
