It’s a happy ending for a teenage girl who will soon be reunited with her camera and all the memories that come with it.

A Kelowna mother called Castanet Wednesday afternoon to confirm the camera and recording belonged to her daughter.

She says the camera was found at the perfect time because the family’s longtime yellow lab died on Tuesday and her daughter is disappointed that there are no pictures of her and her furry friend.

“She was sad and then we saw your story with the last picture of her and our dog. It is hard to believe that the camera was found at the bottom of the lake,” said the mother.

A waterlogged camera was found in Okanagan Lake in April and the footage was recovered.

The family who found the camera are now hoping to find the rightful owner.

Anne Treichel says her grandson Gabriel and his mother were paddleboarding at Sarsons Beach when the 14-year-old girl made the discovery.

“He brought it home thinking he might dry it out and see what’s what,” she said, explaining that while the camera was “toasted,” the memory card worked fine.

Treichel says she and her husband did an investigation to try to track down the owner.

They looked at the photos and saw a “Home of the Knights” decal.

“I went online to see which school belonged to the Knights Home and came across Kelowna Christian School.”

Photos from the memory card show what appears to be a group of Year 10 or Year 11 students on a field trip having fun on a school bus.

Treichel also believes the photos were taken relatively recently, as one of the photos was taken at PetSmart’s new location in Kelowna.

“It’s nice because the pictures obviously belong to a teenager and you know you want to have all those memories when you were a kid, especially when you’re on a bus trip with your friends from school,” Treichel said.

The camera is a dark blue Samsung digital camera.

If you are the rightful owner, you can call Castanet.
