Rising UK Covid cases prepare NHS for bumpy ride | News

The number of people in hospital with Covid is expected to rise further, fueling concerns about the ability to treat other illnesses, a senior health official said today.

Jenny Harris, chief executive of the UK’s Health Security Agency, said the current wave of infections had not yet peaked and asked people to “go about their normal lives” but in a “safe way”.

Meanwhile, an organization that represents NHS trusts said hospital bosses were braced for a “bumpy ride” with coronavirus infections expected to add to the seasonal flu pressure later this year. Australia’s tough start to the flu season, which is ahead of Europe’s, is seen as a potential warning sign for the UK.
