At least one other person has been arrested in connection with a series of shootings in the St. John area.
Robert Belbin, 20, was detained on Friday and remains on remand. On Monday, the RNC arrested another 20-year-old man from St. John’s with an scheduled afternoon appearance in court. More arrests are pending.
The RNC is expected to release more information. Groups of police cars were spotted in many subway areas over the weekend after the shooting and, in some cases, such as Baker Street at the eastern end, a fire bomb.
An earlier story
Royal Newfoundland Police have corrected media reports of the Thorburn Road shooting incident last week.
RNC says CBC NL said it took police three and a half hours to respond to reports of property damage caused by shootings in the apartment building, saying the incident was reported at 2:45 a.m. and police did not arrived only after 6:00 am. This information, according to them, is not accurate.
The RNC says it has completed a “detailed review” of calls to police on the date in question and says no call has been received for damage from the shots until 6:23 a.m.
From there they specify that at 02:45 they received numerous signals for shots in the area. Police responded, but found no evidence of gunfire or riots at the time. They have established a fire nearby, but cannot confirm a connection.
According to the RNC, in the interests of protecting the integrity of the organization and its employees, they must appropriately identify and correct any false information published by the media.
