Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office is poised to make a “big” announcement Thursday morning, a spokesman said.
Taking to Twitter Wednesday night, DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw teased the impact of the announcement and said it would cause the “liberal media meltdown of the year.”
“MAJOR announcement tomorrow morning from @GovRonDeSantis. Brace yourselves for the liberal media meltdown of the year,” Pushaw wrote. “Everyone get some rest tonight.”
Some people immediately began to speculate whether the announcement referred to the 2024 presidential election, since the Florida governor is popular among Republican voters.
DeSantis has consistently topped polls for potential 2024 Republican candidates, usually just behind former President Donald Trump.
After a user mentioned DeSantis’ lead in the internal poll, Pushaw responded that the announcement would be official and not about his campaign.

In another tweet, Pushaw confirmed that DeSantis is seeking re-election in Florida. A potential 2024 announcement would be particularly early and would require Desantis to report to the Federal Election Commission between now and Election Day.
Another user asked if DeSantis would travel to Taiwan in light of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recent visit to the region.
“He’s focused on Florida, as always!” Pushaw replied.

Several other commenters speculated that the decision could be related to him officially joining Trump’s 2024 vice presidential bid, Florida’s mask ban, a lawsuit against President Joe Biden, or even a US succession.
Many users expressed interest in knowing what the message will ultimately be.
DeSantis’ popularity among Republican voters across the country has soared over the past two and a half years as he relentlessly opposed COVID-19 restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic — as well as his open defiance of the culture wars.
