They feared that dozens of civilians were killed and wounded after Russian missiles hit a crowded shopping mall in the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk yesterday, shortly after the United States promised to send sophisticated air defense systems to Kyiv.
President Zelenski warned that the death toll could be “unimaginable”, saying there were more than a thousand civilians in the center when the missiles struck.
The first responders removed ten bodies from the building in the first three hours after the impact and transported at least two dozen wounded to a hospital. A video posted on social media shows people escaping through flames and smoke to escape the fire.
