Handsome boy boxer Ryan Garcia faces one of the toughest tests of his career tonight (July 16, 2022) when he takes on former champion Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. California.

This is Garcia’s second appearance after a 15-month layoff and he will look to erase the memory of April’s decision win over Emmanuel Tagoe. Fortuna looks to make him work for at least that, as he gave JoJo Diaz a decent fight in 2021.
The rest of the main card features rising welterweight Alexis Rocha against sacrificial lamb Luis Veron, as well as a pair of WBA eliminators pitting Lamont Roach Jr. and Ricardo Sandoval against Angel Rodriguez and David Jimenez respectively.

Round One: Exchange kicks to start. Garcia looking for left hooks. Take a sharp right turn. Body shot. Garcia is still mixing up the jab and hook. Fortuna has range trouble, eats a hard right cross and comes back with a combo. He hits the clinch down the middle. Leading right from Garcia. Fortuna tries to swarm, clinch. Garcia continues to potshot with straight rights. Left hook catches Fortuna in a circle. Fortuna comes back with an overhand left. 10-9 Garcia.
Round Two: Fortuna lands a low left. A blow from above. Glancing left hook from Garcia. Still looking for a potshot with a straight. They trade lefts in the center, then Garcia rocks Fortuna with a straight right that prompts a clinch down the middle. Sharp left hook from Garcia, then a right to the body. 1-2-3 lands clean, clinch. Fortuna misses with an overhand left. 10-9. 20-18 Garcia.
Round Three: More rights from Garcia. Fortuna lands in the lower left. Garcia tries the 2-3 on the ropes, lands punches. Direct rights. Fortuna hangs on the ropes in the middle. Garcia lands a combo, gets the win. Left hook. Straight through security. Left counter falls short for Fortuna, decent right hook in combination. 10-9, 30-27 Garcia.
Round four: Garcia still sitting out of Fortuna’s reach and firing straights. Fortuna tries to the left. Hard right right from Garcia, tries to follow up with a combo. Garcia presses the advantage with combinations. A nasty left hook to the body sends Fortuna to her knees. He beats the counter, spitting out his mouthpiece to buy more time. Garcia lurks ahead. Fortuna tries to attack with her hands down. Hard body shot by Garcia on the ropes. Right hand behind her, hard left hook over the top. Combined landing. 10-8, 40-35 Garcia.
Round Five: Early counters from Garcia. Left hook around the guard, then one to the body. Right hook by Fortuna. Sharp straight right from Garcia. A brutal 2-3 takes down Fortuna once again on a slightly delayed reaction. Again he beats the number. Garcia stalks, looking for an opening on the ropes. There’s a nice right hook from Fortuna. Garcia stays patient, Fortuna stays mobile. 10-8, 50-43 Garcia.
Round Six: Fortuna comes out aggressively, but is dropped a third time via a left hook. He doesn’t want more and takes the number.
