AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A lawyer representing two parents who sued conspiracy theorist Alex Jones over his false claims about the Sandy Hook massacre says a U.S. House committee has since Jan. 6 requested two years of phone records of Jones.
Attorney Mark Bankston said in court Thursday that the commission investigating the attack on the U.S. Capitol had requested the digital records.
The House committee did not immediately return a request for comment.
A day earlier, Bankston revealed in court that Jones’ attorney had mistakenly sent Bankston text messages for the past two years from Jones’ cell phone.
An Austin, Texas, jury is deciding how much Jones must pay the parents of a child killed in the 2012 school shooting because of repeated false claims by Infowars that the shooting was a hoax.
Last month, the House Committee on Jan. 6 showed graphic and violent text messages and released videos of right-wing figures, including Jones and others, promising that Jan. 6 would be the day they fight for President Donald Trump.
