Hamilton police are investigating several threats against schools in the area over the past few days.
According to investigators, the threats included “written communications from the bathroom booths.”
Several other details were released by police, but the Hamilton-Wentworth School Board (HWDSB) said in a letter to parents that in one incident the threat was “shooting-related”.
Three letters were sent to the parents by the school board. In one involving Westdale High School near Main Street and Longwood Road South, officials said there would be a police presence on June 3.
“HWDSB is also further investigating this incident in accordance with our student behavior and discipline policy and will take appropriate action,” the letter said.
In another letter to parents of children at Bennett Elementary School near John and Burlington Streets, school board officials said a weapon was confiscated from a student.
“A student brought a pellet gun to our school, which is strictly forbidden,” the letter said.
“The item has not been used. The students were not in danger. The staff immediately addressed the situation and complied with the protocols for safe schools. The police visited our school to provide support. “
Police say they are working with school boards to identify those responsible for the threats and bring the relevant criminal charges. Anyone with information is urged to contact investigators at 905-546-4925.
The threats come days after two teenagers were shot dead in Toronto high schools within hours of each other.
Three people have been charged in connection with the incident.
About a week ago, a man carrying a BB pistol near a school in Scarborough was shot dead by police after a collision.
