Sennheiser has been a major name in the audio business for decades and the company has been offering real wireless headphones for some time. Momentum True Wireless 3 was announced on Tuesday as the latest generation of Sennheiser wireless headphones, with several functional enhancements and the same focus on sound quality.
The new Momentum True Wireless 3 has the same dynamic 7mm drivers made in Germany as previous models, which Sennheiser says “produces immersive stereo sound with deep bass, natural mids and highs.” There is also a Smart Control App for switching between preset audio settings and equalizer use. The standard audio codecs AAC and SBC, as well as Qualcomm aptX Adaptive are supported. Adaptive noise reduction is also available, which is similar to ordinary active noise reduction (ANC), but the noise reduction level is adjusted based on the sound levels in your environment.
The case has a USB Type-C port on the front for charging, as well as support for wireless charging – the latter is new for the Momentum series. The box includes several silicone headphone jacks for different ear sizes, and the headphones have an IPX4 rating against water splashes (it is not clear whether the case has the same IPX4 rating). Sennheiser says the headphones can last up to seven hours on a single charge.
There is no support for multipoint Bluetooth, but this seems to be the only major missing feature. Some early reviews of the headset are already available, with CNET giving it a rating of 8.4 / 10. This review mentions sound quality and the design is excellent, but may not suit people with smaller ears.
Momentum True Wireless headphones are available for pre-order now from the Sennheiser website in three color options: black, white and graphite. No matter which color you choose, you will pay $ 249.95. Official availability starts on May 10.
