Seven men were arrested after reports of bricks and bottles being thrown at police cars on County Road.

Police were attacked around 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 19th. When more patrols arrived to help police, they were also targeted for damage to two other police vehicles before the mob broke up.

Five men were arrested on suspicion of drunkenness and disorderly conduct in a public place, and one was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an employee in the line of duty. They were later released from custody and will be heard at a later date.

A 26-year-old man from Bootle was also arrested on suspicion of violence after two bottles of beer were thrown at police. He was taken to the Merseyside Police Department and remains in custody.

Inspector General Jim Wilde said: “We know that the vast majority of the community will be horrified to hear that emergency vehicles have been damaged while our staff have worked to maintain order and keep others safe. Two key vehicles have been forced off the road as a result of this heinous behavior and will now need to be repaired.

“Fortunately, none of our employees were seriously injured, but the removal of police vehicles from service has a clear impact on the ability of our employees to participate in emergencies. If you have been to the area and have witnessed any riots around the Ring Road area, please come forward. Any footage, video surveillance or video camera can be vital to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice. “
