Four prospects are thought to be at play for Jaguars as number one overall, but it could be a duel between two defensive points until leading decision-makers come together for their final decision this week.
Shad Hahn will watch discussions on the operation led by Trent Baalke and Doug Pederson this week, SI.com’s Albert Breer said, and the longtime Jaguars owner said he had an opinion on which way the No. 1 team should go. that Aidan Hutchinson of Michigan is the right way, according to Tony Pauline of ProFootballNetwork.com, who adds that Baalke supports Georgia defender Traven Walker.
Although his college output surpasses Walker’s, Hutchinson is now the best choice in terms of size ratio. The Walker-Jaguar relationship has been going on for several weeks. Khan has held the list in the past and it will come as no surprise if the 10-year-old Jags owner pulls the trigger on his favorite player. Khan would obviously prefer the room to form a consensus and hint to Brewer that Pederson and Baalke have control of the football operation.
“Yes, I have an opinion,” Hahn told Breer about No. 1. “I have an opinion. We have to get together on Wednesday, so I don’t have as firm a decision as I did maybe last year, but I have it. I think we will really need to strengthen the draft so that we have clarity about all the permutations and combinations we will achieve.
During Pederson’s tenure, the Eagles devoted considerable resources to strengthening their offensive line. The new Jags HC may not oppose such a strategy this year, despite the many prospects of this high-end D-line project. Jags was linked to Ikem Ekwonu at the start of the preliminary design process before marking Cam Robinson for the second time, and Breer heard that Baalke was a fan of O-lineman in North Carolina. Ekwonu remains in the game for Jags at 1, tweeted Matt Miller of ESPN.com.
The team is rumored to be close to an extension of Robinson, and Joan Taylor has started with a proper match in Jacksonville in the last three years. Pro Football Focus, which ranked Jacksonville’s O-line 24th last season, sees Taylor as the team’s weakest link in 2021. Of course, no Jaguar blocker is rated very well here. Jacksonville added Brandon Scherff, but could upgrade to another security post. Ekwonu played boards and guard in college; some see the guard as his better position in the NFL.
