Shock like a human skull found in a lake in Lincolnshire

A human skull was found in a remote area of agricultural land near Louth.

Lincolnshire police cut off the lake with ducks near Pear Tree Lane in Fulstowe, where a forensic tent is defending the scene. Officers also guard the site where investigators are inspecting the site where the remains were found.

A woman living on a nearby farm told Grimsby Live: “The police were here at first light. It was about 4 in the morning. Someone found a human skull. This is a shock.

“Everyone is asking questions about who he may be and how long he has been there. It’s sad because he’s someone’s brother or sister or maybe a parent. The man who found him said he had teeth, but no one has known how long he has been there. “

The woman said she did not know if other body parts had been found at the scene. Another resident said: “You do not expect something like this to happen to you. We are all curious. There are more investigators who arrived this morning and there is more activity at the scene.”

The resident added: “The caps are usually full of water. But when it gets hot like today, they can dry out.”

Investigators will investigate the area and try to establish any connection with people from the missing persons registry. There will also be work by pathologists to try to match it to the DNA lists kept by the National Crime Agency of people registered as missing.

The field where the remains were found today runs along the former Grimsby Railway to Louth. Enthusiasts at Lincolnshire Wolds Railway are looking to extend the line along the former track north to Fulstow.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said: “Police officers and detectives are in the lake with ducks in Pear Tree Lane, Fulstow, after a report of an open human skull by a member of the public.

“Our control room was called by a citizen who reported that the bone was in the lake at around 12.37 on Thursday

“We believe that this may be a human skull, but this will be determined by an in-depth forensic examination of the skull, which may take up to several weeks. The area is seceded and we expect to stay in the area with a full search over the weekend and on Monday. “
