Six people died in a helicopter crash Wednesday night in Logan County, Virginia, according to the deputy director of the county’s emergency management service.
The helicopter crashed on Route 17 near Blair, said Deputy Director Sonia Porter. The mountainous area in the south of the state is known as Kelly Hollow.
Mrs. Porter wasn’t sure what could have caused the crash.
“At the time of the crash, I think the weather was clear,” she said.
The plane is a Bell UH-1B helicopter, said the Federal Aviation Administration, which together with the National Transport Safety Council will investigate the crash.
The Logan County Commission offered its condolences to the families and friends of the victims on local television.
“Our prayers are with them,” said Diana Barnett, county commissioner.
This is an evolving story.
Jason M. Bailey contributed to the reports.
