At least six people were injured Saturday night in an exchange of shootings in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, police said.
Chattanooga police officers patrolled the center at about 10:48 p.m. local time, “watching many groups exchanging shootings and many people fleeing the area” near 100 Cherry St.
“Our staff has begun to help victims as well as help others in safety,” a police spokesman said. “They managed to detain at least one person of interest in the incident in the moments after the shooting began.
Police said “several” victims with firearms were transported to local hospitals. Two people are in danger of death, police said. Most of the victims were teenagers or in their early 20s, police said.
“On that date, we had large groups of minors walking around the city center, and we believe the shooting was carried out by that group,” a police spokesman said.
