Snap Inc, also known as the company behind Snapchat, has just launched a flying camera designed to work with the app. The bright yellow Pixy drone fits in the palm of your hand and is ideal for capturing videos of you and your friends or family without having to concentrate on using a controller.
Designed to sync directly with Snapchat, Pixy is a fun flying camera that has four different flight modes: hold, detect, orbit and track. Unlike some of the best drones for beginners, the Pixy is a completely hands-free device that takes off and lands in the palm of your hand. It has two cameras in total; one at the base of the device to help him navigate, and a front camera that records you.

A dial at the top of the Pixy allows the user to choose which pre-programmed flight path to perform and when to take off. A green LED on the front will appear when ready to fly, while a white LED will light up when recording. You can set Pixy to capture between 10 and 60 seconds of frames, which can then be edited, corrected and shared.
Pixy can be easily paired with your phone via the Snapchat app, all you have to do is make sure it is switched to standby mode and then go to the settings menu where you will see Pixy in the list. Click on pairing and then hold down the button on the base of the device for 7 seconds and the green light will start flashing once paired. There is a lightweight removable battery that can be charged in the device with a certified USB C cable or for faster charging plugged into a wall.
For content creators, this would be a great addition to your mobile kit, as it is small enough to hold you at all times and will allow you to record without having to set up a tripod and camera, which can be time consuming. . If you love making small videos on day trips, festivals, holidays or weekends, Pixy is perfect for this and also looks cute.
At first I thought Pixy was a bit of a gimmick, but after watching a few videos about it, I’m starting to see the benefits. There have been many times when I flew with my DJI Mini 2, where I wanted to record with friends, but not with the photo controller. Pixy’s video quality may not be as good as some of DJI’s best drones, but at least you don’t have to control it all the time.
For now, the Pixy will only be available in the US and France for a starting price of $ 249.99 (approximately £ 200), which includes a drone as well as a dual rechargeable battery pack. A spare battery, USB C cable and carrying strap can also be purchased separately. Pixy cameras are expected to start shipping in about 11-12 weeks, so if you want one in time for the summer, it’s best to pre-order now!
