Six teenagers from southern Alberta face criminal charges following an RCMP investigation into reports that a 13-year-old girl was harassed and harassed.
The Claresholm RCMP team received numerous complaints on May 31, alleging that a large group harassed the girl.
The allegations were investigated by members of the Claresholm and Nanton RCMP teams, and officials found that there was a “long history of inappropriate treatment of these young people and the victim”.
“It is unfortunate that many previous warnings have been ignored and that the problem has risen to that level,” Acting Captain Tom Nairn said in a statement issued Monday. “The RCMP takes harassment and related crimes seriously and will continue to protect the community and its victims.”
On June 3, police arrested five 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old in connection with the investigation.
The defendants face a total of 10 criminal charges, including:
- Six intimidation points;
- Three charges of mischief; and,
- A number of threats.
All defendants, whose names cannot be named due to their age, must appear in Fort McLeod County Court on July 15.
Claresholm is located about 100 km south of Calgary on Highway 2.
