Starfield and Redfall have been postponed to 2023

Bethesda’s long-awaited Starfield has been postponed from this year and will now start in the first half of 2023.

The company also announced a similar delay – again until the first half of 2023 – for Redfall.

“We have decided to postpone the launch of Redfall and Starfield for the first half of 2023,” Bethesda announced on Twitter today. “The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games and we want to make sure you get the best, most polished versions of them.

“We want to thank everyone for their excitement about Redfall and Starfield. This energy is a huge part of what inspires us all every day and stimulates our own excitement about what we create.

“We can wait to share our first deep dive in the game soon for both Redfall and Starfield. Thank you for your support.

Starfield was scheduled to arrive on November 11 – 11/11/22 – and was positioned as a key game for both Bethesda and Xbox this holiday season. As with all the first parts of Xbox and Bethesda games, it will launch directly in the Xbox Game Pass.

Originally announced in 2018, long before Microsoft acquired Bethesda, Starfield was described as a next-generation space-based RPG and the first new Bethesda Game Studios franchise in years. More recent comments have described him as a “Han Solo simulator” and a “NASA meeting Indiana Jones.”

Back in February, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said he wanted the Xbox-exclusive Starfield console to be played by even more Skyrim people. The last few months have seen a constant drumbeat of teasing as the game’s marketing machine grows.

Redfall, an FPS for vampire shooting from Dishonored Studio Arkane, was announced on Bethesda’s Xbox and E3 showcase last summer, with single and co-op multiplayer modes and four unique survivors to play with. He remained shrouded in relative secrecy, except for some screenshots leaked online last September.
