Returning assistant Steve McLaren has compared Manchester United manager Eric Ten Haag to Sir Alex Ferguson as he prepares for Old Trafford to score two points.
McLaren not only spent time at United under the legendary Scotsman, but also worked with Ten Hag in the Netherlands. Of course, this happened when the Englishman was in charge of Twente, while Ten Hag acted as his assistant. Now the roles have been exchanged in time for next season.
Ten Hague was appointed by United last month and took office on Monday. He attended their match on the last day against Crystal Palace – where he was joined by confirmed assistants McLaren and Mitchell van der Haag – while attention is focused on their upcoming recovery.

Speaking about the challenge to his son Josh in the McClaren Performance podcast, McLaren made a rather sublime comparison between two men he knows well. He said: “The last seven days have embodied his attention to detail, all the planning he wants to do right.
“And this is from the day after he won the championship with Ajax, he’s on to the next thing; a bit like Sir Alex Ferguson before. But we just want to support Eric and make him successful, and if so, then the team is. “
McLaren added: “Eric finished his last game [at Ajax]came to London, where I met him and Mitchell [van der Gaag] and John Murtow and we spent five or six days together [Monday] with the press. So we spent the last week at work.

“Work ethic and attention to detail have just been illustrated in the last seven days, when he met with virtually every staff member with whom he will work closely and worked out the plan in detail – what each person’s job is.
“It’s not just exciting to be back at Manchester United, it’s exciting to work with Eric again. And after a week with Mitchell, a very, very good coach, and hopefully together with the staff and John Murtow they were also a fantastic help in the process, we can start in mid-June when [the] the players are back.
“This is a new beginning. I know Eric is looking forward to it, and I certainly look forward to it. It was great to catch up with him in the last seven days and connect again and hope to make a great team off the field that will eventually create one on the field. “
