Stray broke Annapurna’s record for concurrent players on Steam

Stray has become Annapurna Interactive’s biggest PC launch to date.

According to official Steam data, the indie title’s peak concurrent player count currently stands at 62,963 on its launch day.

Only 12 games are being played by more Steam users at the time of publication, including free-to-play hit Apex Legends and AAA titles like FIFA 22 and Grand Theft Auto.

According to independent market analyst Benji-Sales, Stray has comfortably beaten Annapurna’s concurrent player record on Steam, previously held by Twelve Minutes with 8,021. Behind it are Outer Wilds (7,936), Neon White (3,277) and Journey (1,757 ).

Developed by small French studio BlueTwelve, Stray was released today for PS5 as well as PC.

The game is priced at £24.99/$29.99 on the PlayStation Store and £23.99/$29.99 on Steam.

Notably, it’s also available at no extra cost to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tier subscribers.

VGC’s review of Stray called it one of Annapurna’s best releases to date.

He concludes: “Stray is a masterclass in environmental design, with one of the most fascinatingly detailed game worlds we’ve explored. Like the main character, it’s a little short, but what’s here will stay with you for a long time. Substantial.”

Annapurna is set to host a product showcase on July 28, with “reveals, announcements and more” being teased.

The critically acclaimed What Remains of Edith Finch could be making an appearance at the event after recently being rated for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
