A man who Greater Sudbury Police say is responsible for an Aug. 5 bomb threat at a Sudbury courthouse has been taken into custody.
The city’s 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center received a phone call about a bomb threat at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 5.
The information provided was that a bomb had been left in the Courthouse building and was about to explode.
Officers attended the area and secured the building while additional officers helped evacuate the Courthouse.
The Greater Sudbury Police Emergency Response Unit, Forensic Branch and Patrol Operations completed a thorough search of the building and found no suspicious packages or explosive devices.
After the search was completed, people were allowed back into the building and court resumed for the day.
Through the ongoing investigation, Greater Sudbury Police detectives have identified the person believed to be responsible.
The 25-year-old was located and arrested in Toronto by Toronto police on August 6.
The suspect is charged with false reporting, public mischief, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000 and harassing phone calls.
He was transported to Greater Sudbury to attend the Weekend and Statutory Holidays (WASH) court on August 7. After attending the WASH court, he was remanded in custody and will appear in court on bail today, August 8.
Upon returning to Greater Sudbury, the suspect was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for criminal harassment.
