The M40 closed on Sunday (May 22nd) morning heading south through Warwickshire. There was a crash of several vehicles, which led to a fuel spill.
A truck and a car collided between junction 16 (A3400 Stratford Road) and junction 15 (bypass A46 Warwick). It happened around 1 am, but debris remained on the road for many hours and restoration work was underway.
The travel site Inrix said the road would need to be re-paved before it could reopen. the road was finally reopened shortly after 8:30 p.m.
Traffic was diverted using the A3400 to Henley in Arden and then the A4189 via Claverdon to rejoin the M40 at J15. We contacted the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) and Warwickshire Police to find out more.
