Supplements: Vitamin B12 may increase the risk of lung cancer

For example, a meta-analysis of 18 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 74,498 individuals found that supplements containing B vitamins, including 20 to 2,000 mcg / day of vitamin B12, had little or no effect on cancer incidence, cancer deaths or all – cause mortality during follow-up periods of 2 to 7.3 years.

What the health authorities say

The Mayo Clinic says, “When taken in appropriate doses, vitamin B12 supplements are usually considered safe.”

According to the NHS, adults (ages 19 to 64) need about 1.5 micrograms a day of vitamin B12.

“If you eat meat, fish or dairy foods, you should be able to get enough vitamin B12 from your diet,” says the health authority.
