The body of 50-year-old Eric John Shestalo was found Monday in the Bridal Falls area. RCMP said he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Significant police resources have been involved in the search for the armed suspect over the past several days,” RCMP Deputy Commissioner Dwayne MacDonald said at a news conference Monday. “The suspect was found dead.”
Shestalo was the suspect in a triple shooting at a home in the 9700 block of McNaught Avenue on Thursday.
One woman died at the scene and another woman died of her injuries in hospital. One man has non-life threatening injuries.
A search for the armed suspect ensued. On Friday, Shestalo’s vehicle, a red Jeep YJ, was found in Bridal Falls, east of Chilliwack. Homicide investigators, supported by the Emergency Response Team, RCMP Air One and police canine units, focused their search in the area.
An autopsy is pending on Shestalo’s death.
Police said Shestalo had a “personal relationship” with the dead women, identified as Amber Culley, 43, and Mimi Cates, 49.
Amber Culley
Culley’s heartbroken family released a statement released by the RCMP, describing Culley as “the most loving, generous, compassionate and courageous human being we have ever known.
“We will miss her dearly, but we will never let a killer snuff out her bright light or destroy the lives of our little boys,” they said. “Her children were her world.”
