Police had to close Beaver Lake Road for several hours on Sunday afternoon.
A man living on the road east of the lake told Castanet that he was riding his dirty motorcycle on Sunday afternoon when he came across police officers unfolding a spiked belt seven kilometers away.
Evan Tozer said it was a “large police presence” involving tactical officers.
“They told us to turn around because there was a police incident, they said, ‘This is a firearms call, and we turned around right away,'” Tozer said.
The RCMP confirmed that its emergency response team had been sent on a distress alert.
“Members temporarily closed the area to ensure public safety and were able to resolve the situation peacefully,” said RCMP spokesman Sergeant Kevin Dugan.
Tozer said he noticed a large backlog of vehicles coming on the road, allegedly stuck behind the police action after the incident ended.
“All the trailers and everything that comes for the weekend on Sunday,” Tozer said.
