A teenager and an unidentified man drowned in isolated incidents while swimming in Rockaway on Friday, officials said.
The 16-year-old girl was swimming near 108th Street on the beach when she fell and had to be rescued by civilians shortly after 6 p.m., police said.
About 20 minutes later, the man, believed to be in his 20s, got involved while swimming near 98th Street beach, cops said.

The man was pulled out of the water by FDNY officials with the help of a New York City Park Patrol, the city’s park department said.
The two were transported separately to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, according to police.
Both victims swam in restricted areas, Parks officials said. They were still in the water after 6 pm, when the rescuers left for the day.
“Our hearts are broken by these unfortunate deaths,” said the park department.

“This is a painful reminder that New Yorkers should never enter the water in closed areas of our coastline where rescuers are not present. We urge New Yorkers to swim only in open areas and when lifeguards are on duty.
