Big crowds for Canada Day

Canada Day festivities were back in full force in Kelowna on Friday, and people flocked downtown and the waterfront to celebrate after two long years of the pandemic curtailing fun and festivities.
Tens of thousands listened to music, visited vendors and food trucks, and enjoyed the water.
Everyone Castanet spoke to was relieved to see people coming back enjoying themselves.
“I love Canada Day. I’ve missed him for the past two years,” said Angela, who was wearing a red sequined shirt and red cowboy hat.
Alan and Marian Hansen were catching some shade in the waterfront park. They were people watching before heading home to catch the fireworks from their home overlooking the water in West Kelowna.
“It’s really good to see everyone around and people out. So it’s really fun,” said Pascala, who grew up in Montreal. It was her first Canada Day in Kelowna.
Ken from Okanagan Kettle Corn broke down but was glad to be so busy.
“Everyone here is happy and having a good time. It’s good to see everyone out there,” he said.
It was the first time the launch of Meet Me on Bernard coincided with the Canada Day festival.
The City of Kelowna estimates more than 60,000 people will take part in the fun and festivities, which culminate with a fireworks display at 10 p.m.
