Buses transporting migrants from Texas to New York at the direction of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott have sparked a firestorm of condemnation from Democratic leaders. To the Lone Star State’s Republican governor Northeast Democrats should call on President Biden to secure the border and resolve the immigration crisis.
“It’s appalling when you think about what the governor is doing,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said Sunday as he met migrants getting off a bus from Texas.
It was the second bus of migrants to reach New York since Friday, and Adams criticized Abbott for the move, saying some of the migrants on the bus wanted to go to destinations other than New York but were not allowed to.
Conservative leaders in red border states have threatened to send some of the record number of migrants who have come to the US since Biden took office to liberal cities far from the border.

“President Biden and his administration have willingly handed over the southern border of the United States to dangerous criminal cartels, with no thought for the border communities in South Texas like McAllen and Del Rio, which lack the resources to deal with this massive influx of illegal immigrants. immigrants,” Sen. Ted Cruz said last year as he introduced a bill that would move migrants from South Texas to ports in liberal cities like Palo Alto, Calif., and vacation hotspots like Martha’s Vineyard.
In April 2022, Abbott took action and sent the first busload of migrants from Texas to Washington, DC. This month, two busloads of migrants from Texas reached New York, and others headed for D.C

Abbott’s office responded to Adams’ comment that it was “appalling” that the governor was sending busloads of migrants to New York, telling him to discuss the issue with the president and call for stronger border policies.

“What is appalling are the thousands of illegal immigrants who are overrunning and overwhelming our border communities with populations smaller than a New York City neighborhood, and Mayor Adams is hypocritically upset that he is welcoming a few dozen into his sanctuary city,” said Abbott press secretary Rene Eze told Fox News Digital on Monday.
“If the mayor wants a solution to this crisis, he should call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border — something the president continues to fail to do,” she added.
The office also hit back at New York Democrats’ argument that some of the migrants bused to New York wanted to go to other areas of the country but were forced to travel to the Big Apple.
“These migrants voluntarily chose to go to New York by signing a voluntary waiver of consent, available in multiple languages, upon boarding that they agreed to the destination,” Eze said.

New York Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Adriano Espaillat also spoke out on the issue, writing a letter to Department of Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas denouncing reports that some migrants who have reached New York are showing up with fake documents.
New York Democrats told Mayorkas that migrants are being “issued official DHS documentation” with destination addresses where they cannot receive shelter, and called on the DHS chief to ensure migrants are given the correct documentation. They said the lack of proper documentation risked migrants missing due asylum appointments because other important documents would be sent to the wrong addresses, NBC New York reported.
“With the recent news that the governor of Texas is bussing additional asylum seekers to New York, we are concerned that if this matter is not addressed in time, thousands of migrants will continue to be misled and denied resources that they need are due by law, such as access to food and shelter,” they wrote in the letter.

In one case, which is currently under investigation, an immigration official gave documents to a migrant with a false address and phone number and signed it with what NBC New York reported was a hand-drawn tongue-out-of-mouth emoji. ICE said in a statement to NBC New York that it “takes allegations of misconduct very seriously” and that “all allegations of misconduct are investigated appropriately.”
An official from Adams’ office told Fox News Digital that “Texas is intentionally skirting federal procedures as people were forcibly bussed to New York even though they had official immigration documents in other cities and states.” The disruptions increase the chances of migrants missing important immigration appointments and hearings, the official added.
The New York City Council held a special session Tuesday on buses and how the city can handle the influx of migrants. The meeting was punctuated by condemnation of Abbott and how New York’s shelter system is already strained, sitting at a 1% vacancy rate.
“What’s new now is the systematic diversion of asylum seekers and immigrants to New York City by outside forces, including the despicable, cruel and cowardly actions of Texas Governor Greg Abbott,” Immigration Commissioner Manuel Castro told the City Council during a hearing.

To a question from “Fox & Friends Weekend” on sunday what “statement” texas is sending to new york by transporting migrants to the stronghold of blue voters, texas attorney general ken paxton said it’s a message of “justice.”
“Part of it is that we have a significant problem at the border. They are [NYC] i only experience a small part of it. I mean, it’s almost a minor inconvenience for them, but it’s a big deal for us. So, it’s just interesting to see some of these mayors who have invited and created sanctuary cities suddenly start complaining that they have a few thousand immigrants when we’re dealing with millions,” Paxton said.
The Center for Immigration Research released a report in June that found the “foreign-born population” in the US has increased by more than 2 million since Biden took office. In May alone, the number of encounters with migrants at the southern border reached a new record of 239,416 encounters.

A CBP source told Fox News in June that there have been 440,000 known cases of illegal immigrants who have passed through border agents since the start of the fiscal year in October, meaning there have been more than 800,000 cases of escape since October 2020 .until May this year.
Conservative leaders in border states and across the country criticized the president for his immigration policies, including ending the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, announcing an ultimately failed plan to offer citizenship to 11 million illegal immigrants early in his presidency possession, loosening of border enforcement policies, among other issues.

“The Biden administration is allowing historic levels of illegal immigrants, guns and deadly drugs like fentanyl to flood our state and dump migrants in our border towns with little or no help,” Abbott’s press secretary told Fox News Digital. “Texas continues to step up to respond to this crisis by deploying Texas National Guard and DPS troops, building our own border wall, transporting migrants to the sanctuary cities of Washington, D.C. and New York to provide relief to our local partners, and now sends illegal immigrants back to the border.”
The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. Adams said Monday that he had a call set up with the White House to discuss federal aid.
