A motorcyclist died after a serious road collision, in which the main route was closed for six hours.
The deadly crash occurred on the south lane of the A19 between the A174 Thornaby and the A172 Ingleby Arncliffe.
Ambulances were called to the scene around 8am on Wednesday and the road was finally reopened at around 2pm. The driver of a blue Ford KA collided with a silver Yamaha motorcycle, the motorcyclist was slightly injured, but the 51-year-old motorcyclist was found dead on the spot.

A spokesman for the force said: “The car, a Ford KA, was approaching the A19 from the direction of Cross Lane in Ingleby Arncliffe. The motorcycle was moving south on the A19.
“Unfortunately, the driver of the motorcycle, a 51-year-old man, was found dead on the spot. The driver of the car was slightly injured and is helping us with the investigation.
At one point, traffic was queuing for three miles while police made diversions. A spokesman for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were present at the scene with a device.

Shortly before the incident, three A174 cars crashed near Stainton around 7 a.m., causing delays and a queue. Here, one lane was blocked on the west lane of the A174 from B1365 to B1380 Low Lane. Emergency teams arrived on the scene.
