The Apple BOE vendor could lose millions of orders for the iPhone 14 OLED panel

Chinese display maker Beijing Oriental Electronics (BOE) has struck a deal with Apple to supply OLED panels for the iPhone 14 series. However, media reports say it could lose about 30 million OLED screens for the iPhone in 2022.

South Korean publication The Elec reports that the company has not yet received approval from Apple for iPhone 14 displays and may actually lose about 30 million OLED screens for the iPhone in 2022.

This is because BOE unilaterally changed the design of the chain width of OLED panels on the iPhone 13 earlier this year to increase profitability, which led Apple to ask BOE to stop production of panels, citing The Elec. announced GSMArena.

Production of OLE panels on the iPhone 13 by BOE has been suspended since February, and The Elec reports that the display maker has even sent a Level C CEO, joined by several employees, to Apple’s headquarters to explain the reason for the unilateral design changes.

BOE also asked the Cupertino-based technology giant to approve the production of OLED panels for the iPhone 14, but “did not receive a clear answer from Apple.”

Apple reportedly wants to reduce its dependence on Samsung Display and LG Display by diversifying its suppliers and having a negotiating position, the report said.

But since the company allegedly asked BOE to stop producing iPhone 13 OLED screens and has not yet approved the production of OLED panels for the iPhone 14, Samsung Display and LG Display are likely to receive orders for those 30 million panels, which were supposed to be manufactured by BOE, he added.
