A suspect is now in custody in connection with the death of Colton Crawshaw, an 18-year-old Calgary man who was last seen alive in 2014.
Calgary police said a male suspect was arrested Thursday, the culmination of an investigation that began when Crawshaw disappeared after leaving a house party in Abbeydale, Alta.
Weeks later, his body was found in a reservoir near Stoney Trail and 16 Avenue NE
“Since 2014, homicide investigators have conducted thorough witness interviews and searched CCTV to identify a suspect. Members of the public have recently come forward with new evidence which has allowed us to progress our investigation,” police said in a statement.
The suspect, who was arrested Thursday, has not been named, but authorities say he and Croushu were acquaintances and attended the house party together.
Police say the two left the party together and at some point an argument ensued that resulted in Croushu’s death and his body being dumped in the lake.
A motive has not been determined, but there are not believed to be any other suspects.
“Our homicide detectives were incredibly persistent throughout this investigation,” said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Homicide Unit.
“Homicide investigations require the support of resources throughout the service, and for eight years our CPS investigators have worked together tirelessly to find answers for Colton’s family.”
The identity of the accused will be released after formal charges are filed.
