The Barcelona midfielder said in the dressing room that he could move to Manchester United

Frenkie de Jong was one of Barcelona’s biggest chips in the transfer market this summer. Since the beginning of the transfer window, the midfielder has been identified as one of the biggest sources of income.

Although Xavi was initially wary of offloading the talented Dutchman, he was willing to sanction the move in a bid to bring more money to the club.

The likes of Manchester United even pushed hard for de Jong this summer.

But the transfer did not materialize as the player never showed any intention of leaving the Camp Nou, especially due to his lucrative contract and the money owed to him through deferred wages.

What’s more, he was adamant that playing for Barcelona is his dream and he won’t give up so quickly.

While Barca themselves are aware of their precarious position, it looks like they are starting to put more pressure on de Jong in recent days, especially in light of the wage woes that are preventing them from signing new players

The whole episode has left Frenkie de Jong extremely frustrated and according to Diario SPORT, the player seems to be considering a move away from Camp Nou. In fact, the report claims he told the Barcelona dressing room as much.

Manchester United have emerged as a potential destination as the Premier League giants are still ready to make a lucrative bid to bring the midfielder to Old Trafford.

Their coach Erik ten Hag remains keen to secure a meeting with de Jong, having played a key role in starting his career at Ajax.

The player himself is considering a move to England, which may not offer him Champions League football, but a relatively promising sporting prospect and, most importantly, an exit from Barcelona.

The former Ajax star believes Barca have put enough pressure on him and it may be time to make a decision, although any movement on his future is unlikely to come before the end of August.
