A fight between the Los Angeles Angels and the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon led to a long list of penalties handed out on Monday night.

MLB has eliminated 12 players, managers and coaches for a combined 47 games. The biggest melee of the season began early in the second inning in Anaheim, California, after Angels pitcher Andrew Wonz hit Mariners left winger Jesse Winker off the field.

As Winker approached the dugout of the Angels, the benches cleared as the battle erupted in about four minutes and the game was delayed by about 18 minutes.

Angels interim manager Phil Nevin received the longest suspension in 10 games after Wantz threw against Winker, an incident that came after earlier warnings.

The drama began on Saturday when Mariners pitcher Eric Swanson nearly hit Los Angeles star Mike Trout’s midfielder in the ninth inning.

“If you’re going to hit me, hit me in the ribs,” Trout said after his team lost 5-3 on Saturday. “Don’t hit me on the head. I don’t know if that’s the intention, but … whatever is in charge, you don’t do it. “

In Sunday’s first inning, Wantz threw inside the Marines’ central outfielder Julio Rodriguez. Wantz, usually relieving, started his first career on Sunday instead of the planned starter Jose Suarez.

Speaking to reporters before his team hosted the Chicago White Sox on Monday, Nevin denied using Wantz as a starter, only to throw against the Mariners.

“That’s not a fact,” Nevin said. “But I don’t want to go to war with this. Done done. Yesterday is over and over. We are focused on the White Sox today. ”

Winker, who was hit in the right thigh with a fast 91 mph ball, received a seven-match penalty after approaching the Angels’ dugout, despite attempts to detain him by two referees. Some Angels players met Winker on top of their dugout as the Mariners invaded from their bench.

Seattle’s JP Crawford received a penalty of five games and Rodriguez was penalized for two games. All three Mariners players will appeal.

Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon and assistant coach Dom Chiti received five games each for their actions.

Randon, a former Washington National star known for her calm demeanor, met Winker on top of the dugout and stuck his left hand in Winker’s face. Randon suffered a right wrist injury at the end of the season earlier this month and wore a cast on that wrist during the clashes. He has to serve his sentence after returning from the injured list, but will be banned from sitting on the Angels’ bench for the next seven games.

Wantz, who denied deliberately hitting Winker, and Angels pitcher Ryan Tepera received penalties for three games. Los Angeles Peter Raisel Iglesias, bench coach Ray Montgomery and translator Manny Del Campo received penalties for two games; Tepera and Iglesias were the only angels to appeal.

After learning that he was one of the eight players or managers fired on Sunday, Iglesias threw a box of sunflower seeds on the field. When he returned to the dugout, he threw a tub of gum.

Angels coach Bill Hasselman also received penalties for one match.

After the fight, Winker pointed his middle fingers in the stands as he walked toward the Seattle dugout. The Angels won 2-1, scoring both runs in the seventh inning.

In support of Winker, a Mariners fan ordered a pepperoni pizza, which was delivered to the left player at the guest club on Sunday.

“The only thing I will apologize for is to freak out the fans,” Winker said after Sunday’s game. “That’s it. As fans, they spend their hard-earned money to come and watch us play a game, and they didn’t deserve it. So I apologize to the fans, especially the women and children.”
