A man and a woman admitted that they were responsible for a dog that fatally injured a student. 10-year-old Jack Lees was killed after being attacked by a dog called the Beast.
Brandon Hayden, 19, and Amy Salter, 28, pleaded guilty to being responsible for a dangerous dog out of control that caused severe injuries to Jack’s head and neck. The attack took place at a friend’s house in Pentwyn, Penyrheol, Caerphilly, on November 8.
Appearing in Cardiff’s court on Thursday, the defendants spoke to present their pleas on the charges. Hayden of Pen Y Bryn, Penyrheol, also pleaded guilty to five other crimes, including his Bulldog Beast.

These crimes were five charges of driving a dangerous out of control dog – three of which were related to incidents on November 4 near Top Shops in Heol Aneurin, when the dog jumped against people and acted aggressively. On the same day, Beast bit and wounded Michael Ball, and on November 7, Beast wounded Sian Sullivan near Top Shops.
Jack was killed after the Beast attacked him while standing near a Salter address when the dog jumped on him and caused fatal injuries. Judge Michael Fitton of QC left Hayden and Salter of Lanfabon Drive, Tretomas, on bail, but told them he was “not making any promises” about the verdict. He added: “The likely outcome, especially for you, Mr Hayden, will be imprisonment.”

Speaking at the time of his death, Jack’s family said: “We are absolutely heartbroken. Our lives will never be the same without Jack. This is not something a parent should write about. We have so many words to say about our handsome boy, but they don’t seem enough.
“We love him more than words can describe. Our boy made us the proudest parents and family on the planet. He was the sweetest boy. We will forever miss his strange ways and his stories that he would spend so long telling us. He is forever in our hearts. Sweet dreams Jack, our perfect boy. ”
