EDMONTON – Mike Smith came back with 30 saves and the Edmonton Oilers beat the LA Kings 6-0 in Game 2 of their series from the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday.
Evander Kane scored two goals and an assist, while Ryan McLeod scored one, and Jesse Pulyuarvi, Darnell Nurse and Leon Dreissyle also scored.
Connor McDavid contributed with a pair of assists for the Oilers, which tied the best of the seven series at 1-1.
Smith, who made the fatal mistake in handling the puck that led to Edmonton losing 4-3 in Game 1 on Monday, received his fifth playoff playoffs of his career.
Jonathan Quick stopped 30 of the 36 kicks.
The series is already moving to LA for Game 3 on Friday, with the Kings also hosting Game 4 on Sunday. Match 5 is on Tuesday in Edmonton.
Oilers scored his second goal of the night in a power game at 11:55 a.m. in the third after Quinton Byfield was called into custody.
Kane fired a quick shot from inside the lifting circle for his second goal of the evening.
Edmonton jumped 5-0 with a 3:23 lead in the third when Pulyuarvi collected a pass through a slot from McDavid and tore a blow over Quick’s glove.
Just 21 seconds earlier, Kane took advantage when Sean Druze scored a puck in the slot in front of the Kings ‘net and the Oilers’ winger directed it for his first goal of the off-season.
The Oilers improved 3-0 in the third period after Evan Bouchard sent a bomb right from the inside of the blue line and passed it past Quick 16:05 in the second.
LA got the lead with the third man for the night earlier in the period after Kyler Yamamoto was called in for a cut, but it was Edmonton who found the back of the net.
McDavid and Nurse threw themselves on the ice, and Nurse shot with his wrist, which deflected Arthur Kaliev from the Kings and Quick’s glove to give the Oilers a 2-0 6:03 lead in the period.
After the first goalless goal, Edmonton opened the scoring after Dustin Brown was called in to intervene at the start of the second.
Tyson Barrie made a clear pass to Draisaitl in the killer’s far circle and the star sniper hit Quick once for his second playoff goal.
The calculation was the third goal in powerplay for Edmonton in the series.
The Oilers were 2 to 3 with an advantage over the men on Wednesday, and the Kings went 0 to 4.
LA controlled much of the action in the first, beating the hosts 12-6 with five minutes left in the starting frame, thanks in large part to a pair of strong games.
Alex Jaffalo had the best chance for the Kings 12:17 in a backhander match that bounced off the crossbar before Smith knocked him off the edge.
