The European Union has accused Liz Truss of not participating in talks on the future of the Brexit deal for Northern Ireland.
The foreign minister told Maros Shefcovic, a negotiator with the bloc, that Britain had no choice but to unilaterally repeal parts of the Northern Ireland Protocol because Brussels had effectively ruled out additional concessions.
Shefcovic said Trus had failed to meet halfway through the EU during talks earlier today and “did not take the opportunity to fully explore the flexibility presented by the commission”.
“For the United Kingdom, there was no commitment at all on these issues,” he told a meeting of EU and UK parliamentarians. “Unilateral action that effectively removes the protocol is not a solution or a way forward.
