The iPhone 14 will receive the biggest front camera upgrade in years

Earlier this year, numerous reports suggested that Apple was working on major upgrades to the iPhone 14’s front camera. Now analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has confirmed these rumors with new details about the vendors Apple has chosen for the selfie camera components to receive. its biggest upgrade in years with the iPhone 14.

As the analyst shared in a blog post and also on Twitter, Apple has already identified its suppliers for the new iPhone 14 front camera.

Some of them are already partners of Apple, such as Sony – which will continue to provide camera sensors for the new iPhone. The lenses will be provided by Genius and Largan, while the new focus module will come from Alps and Luxshare.

However, as far as the front camera module is concerned, Apple will have Cowell as its partner and, for the first time, the South Korean company LG Innotek. The partnership between Apple and LG Innotek was already announced last month after the Cupertino-based company shut down components from Chinese camera makers due to quality issues.

Based on the Kuo report, the iPhone 14 will be the biggest upgrade to the front camera of Apple’s smartphone in years. The analyst predicts that the new camera will have autofocus, which should lead to significantly better quality of photos and videos compared to the current camera with fixed focus.

Other improvements include a six-piece lens compared to the existing five-piece lens. The front camera of the iPhone 14 is also expected to have a larger aperture of f / 1.9. By comparison, the iPhone’s front camera remains almost the same as the iPhone 11 when Apple introduced a new 12-megapixel lens with an f / 2.2 aperture.

More camera upgrades are coming to the iPhone 14 Pro

While selfie camera enhancements should be available for the entire iPhone 14 range, some of the upgrades will be limited to the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro models. Previous reports have revealed that this year’s Pro models will receive a new wide camera with a 48-megapixel sensor capable of capturing videos in 8K resolution.

Unfortunately, it is rumored that the initial iPhone 14 models retain the same set of rear cameras with wide and ultra-wide lenses of 12 megapixels each. Of course, this does not mean that other aspects of these lenses will not be improved.

iPhone 14 will be available in four different versions, with two regular models and two Pro models. The mini-size iPhone is expected to be discontinued and will make room for a new 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, while the Pro models will retain the same size as the current generation, but this time with a new display design that eliminates the slot.

9to5Mac has also heard from sources that some of the new iPhones will stick to the A15 Bionic chip from the iPhone 13, while others (probably the iPhone 14 Pro models) will receive the new A16 chip.

Apple will probably announce the new iPhones in September.
