SALT LAKE CITY – A judge has issued a restraining order that will temporarily block Utah abortion “trigger law” for 14 days.
Judge Andrew Stone of the 3rd District Court scheduled a hearing Monday afternoon to consider a request from the Planned Parenthood of Utah and the American Civil Liberties Union in Utah for an urgent order to block the implementation of the law.
After hearing lawyers from Utah’s Planned Parenthood and the Utah Attorney General’s Office, Judge Stone issued a temporary restraining order, which took effect immediately and lasted 14 days.
“The immediate effects that will occur outweigh any political issues of the state,” Judge Stone said.
He says doctors face crime, women have medical needs.
The judge acknowledges that Utah is in new territory when it comes to the law (this is new to the state). @ fox13 #utpol #Utah

A preliminary ban will be scheduled at a later date.
FOX 13 News first reported on Saturday that two organizations have filed a lawsuit challenging Utah’s ban on elective abortions which came into force after the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday overturned Rowe v. Wade. The nation’s Supreme Court upheld the decision of the states. Utah’s ban on abortion then came into force (with the exception of rape and incest, maternal health and safety, and fetal viability).
