The latest realityOS brands suggest that Apple is approaching the announcement of AR / VR headphones

Earlier this year, a handful of developers, including Steve Troutton-Smith, found references to realityOS, Apple’s long-running headset for Apple’s virtual and augmented reality headphones. Now, just over a week before the start of WWDC 2022, the name has reappeared in trademark applications that appear to be related to the company.

On Friday, Vox Media product manager Parker Ortolani went on Twitter to share two applications from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which he found registered by a company called Realityo Systems LLC. As Parker and others have pointed out, there is evidence to suggest that Realityo Systems is a bogus company created by Apple to cover its tracks.

First, there is the June 8 filing deadline for both brands, which falls just two days after the start of WWDC 2022. In addition, as noted by 9to5Mac, Realityo Systems LLC shares the same address as Yosemite Research LLC, the shell of Apple, used as a trademark for previous versions of its macOS operating system, including macOS Monterey. Another interesting piece of evidence is that in some countries, Realityo Systems has submitted trademark applications that include the realityOS logo, written in Apple’s signature font in San Francisco.

The moment of submitting the documents suggests that Apple is approaching the day when it will be comfortable to share details about its ambitions for augmented and virtual reality. However, we would warn you not to expect a release next week at the earliest. In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark German of Bloomberg predicts that the company will not hold a “full presentation” of its WWDC mixed reality headphones. In fact, he says he would be “cautious to expect” such a message from the company. Gourmet previously announced that Apple is considering postponing the debut of the device back to 2023 due to ongoing development problems. However, the company is clearly moving forward with the project.
