The life of former politician John Efford will be celebrated on Saturday in his beloved hometown.
The former Liberal cabinet minister, who served at both the provincial and federal levels, died Jan. 2 after a long illness.
His political career lasted from 1985 to 2001.
Efford’s family and friends will welcome members of the public on Saturday afternoon at the Porte de Grave Pentecost Table to join them in celebrating his life and saying goodbye to the popular and charismatic politician.
The service will be streamed live on the church’s Facebook page.
Weather permitting, a memorial flotilla will be held on Sunday, departing from Port de Grave at 2pm and sailing to Greens Point at the tip of the Port de Grave peninsula, where the family will drop a wreath into the water and scatter the Eford ashes, which was his last wish.
The flotilla can be seen by the public from the Port de Grave lighthouse.
