Police in western Quebec said a police officer stopped a vehicle near Gatineau, Que. this week with an “unorthodox and unusual” method of transporting an off-road vehicle that was hung from the roof of the car.
MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police shared a photo of the Mazda 3 with an ATV strapped to the roof.
A police officer was driving on Route 309 in L’Ange-Gardien shortly before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when they spotted the car traveling south in an ATV on the roof.
“As the whole thing piqued their curiosity, they made a U-turn and finally spotted the driver, who was already on the road. 50 to Gatineau,” a police statement said.
Police say the 29-year-old driver from Val de Boa was driving with his license revoked for multiple unpaid fines.
“Not to mention the unorthodox and unusual method of transporting an off-road vehicle,” police said. “The vehicle was held in place with only one lane passing inside the car. It should be noted that due to the weight of the ATV, Mazda’s four shock absorbers were crushed to an extent that made driving the vehicle almost impossible. “
The car is not owned by the driver, but was confiscated for 30 days. The driver was fined $ 494 for driving with a revoked license, while the owner of the vehicle received a $ 494 ticket for allowing someone to drive with a revoked license, according to police.
“Other fines are possible, which will be issued at a later date for securing a known cargo,” police said. “During storage, the ATV was apparently lowered from the roof by the owner, who rolled the ATV into the windshield and hood of the car.
