The Morning After: Google uses Drake’s “Texts Go Green” to explain Apple’s RCS

Google is trying to push Apple to adopt the GSMA’s RCS messaging protocol, from less subtle I / O 2022 hits to long Twitter topics from the head of Android. The latest tool from the creators of Android? Drake text.

The official Android account on Twitter shared an “unofficial video explaining video” for “Texts Go Green”, the third song from Drake’s latest album. Both the title and the chorus refer to what happens when an iPhone user blocks someone from contacting them via iMessage, which by default sets SMS messages and loses features such as read receipts.

Quickly destroying any cultural cache by referring to lyrics from a recent Drake song, the Twitter account called it a “real commotion.” And I close my Twitter app.

“Matt Smith.”
